About the Project



Bechtel is a global leader in safely managing large and complex engineering, construction and remediation projects. Bechtel has more than 30 years of experience with chemical weapons elimination programs, including the construction and operation of the Aberdeen Chemical Agent Neutralization Facility, construction of the Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility and numerous Cooperative Threat Reduction projects in the former Soviet Union. With over 20,000 projects completed on all seven continents, Bechtel is known for demonstrating the highest standards of safety and integrity.
In 2002, the Department of Defense awared Bechtel the winning contract to lead the Bechtel-Pueblo Team in the construction, systemizatiom, operation and closure of the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) in Pueblo, Colorado.

Battelle is a premiere company dedicated to managing laboratories, conducting research and development, designing and manufacturimg products and delivering critical services for their clients. 
At PCAPP, Battelle takes the lead on managing the labratory on site, which analyzes more than 40,000 air samples each day. The lab is also responsible for extraction analysis of PCAPP's various waste streams (e.g. hydrolysate, spent hydraulic fluid, biotreatment nutrielant and etal) to protect employees, the public and the environment.

Parsons is a leader in engineering, construction, environmental services and program management. They provided environmental services at the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant from 1989 to 2001.  

Under the Program Manager for Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives leadership, Parsons developed the patented WHEAT (water hydrolysis of energetics and agent technologies) neutralization technology, which was accepted by stakeholders as the method of destruction for the Pueblo Chemical Depot's mustard stockpile.
